Battlefield 3 Radio Beacon Guide
The Radio Beacon is the starting gadget of the Recon class in
Battlefield 3 and is one of the most valuable and important items in the game. In this article, you will find
out what it does, how to get it and use it, and what the best strategies for using this item are.
What is the BF3 Radio Beacon?
The Battlefield 3 Radio Beacon is a gadget used by the Recon Class. When placed on the ground, your squad
members (or team members in Team Deathmatch) can respawn at this gadget's location. It lasts until it is destroyed
or until you die, at which point you can always plant another Radio Beacon.
How to Get the Radio Beacon and How to Use It
Getting the Radio Beacon is simple - it is the starting gadget of the Recon Kit and fits into Slot 2. As long as
you have it equipped, you can use it. You can place it down by pressing the over arrow on the directional pad on
your controller.
Strategies for using the BF3 Radio Beacon
Without a strategy in mind, the Radio Beacon means nothing. However, if you know how to use it, it can be one of
the best gadgets in the game.

As mentioned, this allows your squad members to spawn wherever it is placed. This means that you can drop it in
a safe place and let your teammates respawn there, otherwise they might not be spawning in the best location (or
anywhere if the squad gets wiped).
As an example, look at Team Deathmatch on Kharg Island. Respawning here is dangerous as nearly every portion on
the map is liable to have an enemy nearby. A good alternative then is to place a radio beacon either in the corner
of the building where your team is positioned or even on the edge of the map where players can safely enter the
fray when they are ready.
It becomes even more important on positional battles like Rush mode at Operation Metro. For example, lets say
that you are on offense and working towards the third set of objectives. You can drop it at the base of the
escalator so your squad members can constantly respawn in a safe but close position.
Otherwise, if you go and join the fray and your teammates spawn on top of you, one of you may get picked off
right away if you are hiding behind a small amount of cover of if your teammate is not ready for the imminent
firefight.
Finally, you can use it if you need reinforcements to hold down a location. Think of Operation Metro again, this
time in Team Deathmatch. If you want to hold down one of the buildings and need reinforcements, drop the Radio
Beacon down in a building so your team constantly respawns there.
Battlefield 3 Radio Beacon Conclusion
The Radio Beacon is a great tool to use in Battlefield 3, but only if you use the right strategy. You do not
just want to throw it down anywhere. Try to use it to bring players close to your objectives and goals for the
particular match you are playing in. You can also use it to set up safe spawn locations on dangerous maps found in
Team Deathmatch.
